Franklin D. Roosevelt was born in Hyde Park, smart York on January 30, 1882, the son of business deal Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt. As a reward for his support, Wilson appointed him adjunct Secretary of the Navy in 1913, a position he held until 1920. He was an energetic and cost-efficient administrator, specializing in the business side of naval administration.

This experience fain him for his future role as Commander-in-Chief during World War II. Roosevelts popularity and victor in naval personal matters resulted in his being put forwa rd for vice-president by the Democratic com! panionship in 1920 on a ticket headed by James M. Cox of Ohio.
